AN IDEA AHEAD OF IT'S TIME... Did I predict the future!?

Warning: may increase dramatic effect. Press play :)

Who would you rather hire, Nikola Tesla or Guglielmo Marconi?

And who do you think really invented radio?

In product design, ideas don’t always come with credit.

But they do show up in the real world.

Timeline

  • March 15, 2024 — My idea proposed to Chess.com includind design attachemnets:

I have an exciting idea that I believe could enhance the chess experience for users on both platforms and promote collaboration between the two communities.

I propose the implementation of a feature that would allow Chess.com users to challenge Lichess users and vice versa. This cross-platform functionality would not only bring together the player bases of both websites but also offer a unique and engaging experience for chess enthusiasts.

Users would have the option to play against opponents from the other platform, fostering a sense of unity and friendly competition.

Furthermore, I envision an extension of this feature, allowing users to customize their gaming experience by choosing different colored boards, pieces, and even engaging in matches with multiple boards and pieces simultaneously.

I believe this collaborative feature could be a game-changer for both Chess.com and Lichess, attracting more users and creating a more vibrant and diverse chess community. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this idea further and explore the potential for collaboration between our two platforms.

You might be strong competitors but in business collaboration is always better than competition.

Thank you for considering my proposal, and I look forward to the possibility of working together to bring this exciting feature to life.

BREAKING NEWS

Apr 5, 2026 — Take Take Take (Chess.com partner) has launched a social chess platform built for players who want to improve, anchored by a new partnership with Lichess.

A Lichess partnership with Chess.com (partner) WOW! Who saw that one coming! :)

My Idea from 2024.

I proposed a concept built around two directions:

1. Cross-platform play

  • Players from Chess.com and Lichess competing

  • Shared ecosystem instead of separated platforms

Pre-Game Identity Direction

As part of the concept, I explored a cross-platform visual identity:

  • Half-screen layout

  • One side representing Lichess

  • One side representing Chess.com

  • Clear contrast in themes, boards, and pieces

The goal was to visually communicate:

  • opponent identity

  • platform distinction

  • a sense of “matchup” before the game begins

Observed Evolution

Later on, I noticed a similar structure being used within Chess.com:

  • A pre-game animation before matches

  • Focus on opponent’s theme (colors, board, pieces)

  • A short 2–3 second intro moment

While the original concept was cross-platform, the implemented version uses a similar idea within a single platform context.

Some designers need to be told what to build.
Others already see it coming.

But it could be all a BIG coincidence, right?

We'll see.

To be continued...

In the meantime, let me share with you one of my best chess games against a very strong Fide Master with a peak rating of 2900+ on Chess.com

SPOILER: I managed to win that game :D

I was white, a complex and interresting game with a fun knight dance in the ending that won me the game.
